SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Course

The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Course is the world’s most popular and widely recognized scuba certification program, designed to train beginners to become safe, confident, and independent scuba divers. This course provides comprehensive knowledge and practical skills required to dive in open water environments under international safety standards.

Throughout the course, students will learn the fundamental principles of scuba diving, including dive physics, physiology, equipment usage, buoyancy control, underwater communication, and dive planning. The program combines academic learning, confined water skill development, and open water dives to ensure a complete and balanced training experience.

The training begins with theory sessions that cover essential diving concepts and safety procedures. Students gain a clear understanding of how scuba equipment works, how to manage air supply, and how to prevent and respond to common diving situations. Learning materials are designed to be easy to understand and suitable for first-time divers.

Confined water training sessions allow students to practice core scuba skills in a controlled environment such as a swimming pool or shallow water. These sessions focus on building comfort and confidence underwater, including mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control, and emergency skills, all under close instructor supervision.

Once confined water skills are mastered, students progress to open water dives. These dives take place in real ocean or open water conditions, where students apply their skills in a natural environment. A minimum of four open water dives are conducted, during which students demonstrate competence, safety awareness, and proper diving techniques.

The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Course is open to individuals aged 10 years and above who are in good physical health and have basic swimming ability. No prior scuba diving experience is required. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive an internationally recognized SDI Open Water Scuba Diver certification, allowing them to dive up to 18 meters (60 feet) worldwide with a dive buddy of equal or higher certification.

Safety is the foundation of SDI training. All sessions are conducted by certified SDI instructors using high-quality, well-maintained scuba equipment, following strict international safety standards. Small group sizes ensure personalized attention and a safe, enjoyable learning environment. The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Course is the first step toward a lifetime of underwater adventure. It opens the door to global dive opportunities, advanced certifications, and unforgettable underwater experiences across the world.
